On Tuesday evening, Stephen Curry made history as he surpassed the all-time 3-pointers record in the NBA. Curry achieved the feat as his Golden State Warriors played the New York Knicks. The former record holder, Ray Allen, was on hand to witness Steph’s accomplishment. In addition, another former 3-point leader, Reggie Miller, was in the building. With the historic feat, there’s a new NBA 2K22 MyTeam Spotlight Challenge to honor Steph.
Steph Curry breaks 3-Point record
Former NBA 2K video game cover star Stephen Curry continues adding to his legend. With the Warriors star fully healthy, it didn’t take long for him to take down one of the league’s major shooting records. In the Tuesday, December 14 game against the New York Knicks, Steph hit the record-breaking three-point shot he needed in the first quarter.
The shot came courtesy of an Andrew Wiggins pass and was a 28-footer from the right wing with 7:33 left in the first, per ESPN. That was his 2,974th, surpassing the record held by Hall of Famer Ray Allen. The two-time champ Allen was in the building along with Miller, as both were covering the game as analysts for TNT. They each congratulated and hugged Steph at one point in the night that the new record would be set.
MSG is full of historic moments, and this one definitely adds to the allure of the classic basketball venue. Check out the highlight video below courtesy of the NBA on YouTube.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement during the game, congratulating Steph on the achievement.
“It was thrilling to see Steph break the NBA’s all-time record for three-pointers,” Adam Silver said in the statement. “He has revolutionized the way the game is played and continues to leave fans in awe with his amazing artistry and extraordinary shooting ability. We congratulate him on this historic achievement.”

Just last week, we saw Stephen Curry take over 2K22’s player ratings as the top-rated player in the game. He is currently ahead of fellow superstar and former teammate, Kevin Durant. Steph holds a 97 OVR rating while KD fell to a 96 recently. However, both players are really battling it out for MVP right now, with KD recently scoring 51 points in a game and now Steph achieving the 3-point record.
We may also see a new Steph card pop up in the game, replacing his 95 OVR Pink Diamond Moments. That card was unveiled based on his November 8th game where he scored 50 points on the Atlanta Hawks including 14-for-28 shooting and nine 3-pointers.
Curry, who has been with the Warriors his entire career, made it onto the NBA 2K16 cover back in 2015. It wouldn’t be surprising to see this two-time MVP and NBA champion get another cover in the future.
