The first official NBA 2K22 ratings update has arrived for 2K’s basketball simulation game. As the latest numbers come in, it’s clear several players have had solid starts to their seasons. The Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball both saw increases in their overall ratings. Other players saw considerable boosts and 2K also paid tribute to some of the game’s all-time greats for the league’s 75th anniversary.
Ja, LaMelo make major gains in NBA 2K22 ratings update
After winning Rookie of the Year, Ja Morant is continuing to build upon his early success with the Memphis Grizzlies. So far in this new NBA season, Ja has 27 points a game, tying him for fourth overall with DeMar DeRozan. He’s also averaging 7.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds, showing a solid start to his young career. Thanks to his impressive performance, he’s the beneficiary of a ratings boost, going up four points to an 89 overall, per NBA 2K’s report.
The Charlotte Hornets were off to one of the hottest starts in the NBA, going 5-1 in their first six games of the season. Some of that was due to last season’s Rookie of the Year winner, LaMelo Ball. The sophomore is averaging 19.4 points, six rebounds, and 6.3 assists in his second year. With his continued guidance, the Hornets appear to be amongst the East’s contenders for the postseason.
In the NBA 2K22 ratings update, Ball moved up to an 87 OVR, after his three-point boost. His teammate Miles Bridges is also off to a good start, and moved up by five points to become an 83 OVR.
Other major gainers in the ratings update included the aforementioned DeRozan, up three points to an 88 overall. Jonas Valanciunas up three points to 86, Dejounte Murray up four points to an 86 OVR, and Harrison Barnes up five points to 83 OVR. Scottie Barnes’ six-point gain moved him to an 86, while Evan Mobley is up by four points to 82 OVR.
2K honors 99 OVR players in the game
In sports video games, the 99 overall rating is the best of the best, and with NBA 2K that’s been the case for several all-time greats. Along with the recent NBA 2K22 ratings update, they honored several players who achieved 99 OVR in the game. The tribute arrives as the NBA recently released their 75th anniversary Top 75 players list.
Four players are revealed below including Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Magic Johnson. These players have all achieved the 99 OVR level during their superstar careers.
With the above reveal comes many fans reminding 2K of another legendary player who should be there. That’s the late, great Kobe Bryant who was honored with a Mamba Forever edition of the game for 2K21. Many consider Kobe amongst the all-time greats and believe he should have a spot with the other superstars above.
All of the above players, including Kobe Bryant, are likely to have more high-rated cards in the game as NBA 2K22 MyTeam releases different promotions and levels of cards in the weeks ahead.
