The NBA 2K22 release date has officially been announced for the latest installment in 2K’s basketball series. Gamers will be able to get their hands on the new simulation title in September. Wednesday brought several different cover reveals including a historic WNBA cover for one edition. There was also the first trailer for the game.
NBA 2K22 release date and trailer
On Wednesday, July 14th, fans received the first game trailer after several teases leading up to it. In the trailer, fans see various everyday fans who enjoy customizing their players or playing out scenarios in NBA 2K games. There’s no actual gameplay footage, so it’s mostly a commercial for the game’s release date.
The game officially releases Friday, September 10. That’s less than two months away, as of this report. The NBA 2K22 pre-orders have also gone live.

Covers feature Luka Doncic, Dirk, KD, and Kareem
There were several NBA 2K22 cover reveal teasers in the past week, but finally, the wait is over. Dallas Mavericks All-Star Luka Doncic is the official 2K22 cover athlete. His game cover is shown below, with pre-orders now available for the new game.
Previous rumors suggested Luka might be cover star as did our cover athlete predictions due to his name familiarity. It only makes sense that the young phenomenon would grace a cover just as previous emerging stars have. He now joins players including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Damian Lillard, and Zion Williamson as a cover star.
“Huge honor to be on the cover of #NBA2K22. Thanks @NBA2K!” the Mavs star tweeted with an image of 2K’s Standard Edition game cover.
There is also a 75th Anniversary Edition cover, shown below. This one merges a current star, with a recently-retired great, and an all-time legend. All three are NBA champions, as Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are all featured on this previously-leaked cover.
First-ever WNBA cover star for exclusive
There is also some history with the upcoming game, as GameStop Exclusive Cover athlete was revealed for NBA 2K22. Candace Parker becomes the first WNBA star to get a cover of the popular basketball game.
Parker currently plays for the Chicago Sky but has also been part of various NBA broadcasts, including the NBA on TNT, making her a recognizable star. It’s yet to be revealed what sort of new features the WNBA modes will have in 2K22, but one has to think there could be a few.
“Extremely proud and humbled to be the first female cover athlete in the history of @NBA2K,” Parker tweeted with the cover.
“I’m honored to work with a company that’s investing in women and betting on us to succeed. I’m hopefully there will be many more bada** females to follow,” Parker said.
