In basketball, the use of the pick-and-roll is a classic play that helps free up a player for a drive to the basket. It’s been seen over the years as a classic play used by the likes of John Stockton and Karl Malone or other star players. In the NBA Live 19 play calling, it’s possible to use a pick-and-roll play in the game. Here’s our latest guide for how to set a pick-and-roll in NBA Live 19 and get those scoring drives towards the hoop.
NBA Live 19 Play Calling for How to set a pick-and-roll
For the pick-and-roll, you’ll usually want one of your playmakers handling the ball outside of the paint. That could mean a play involving Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia Sixers, or James Harden and Clint Capela of the Houston Rockets. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a point guard running it either, but usually, they are the best passers on the court. Typically, big men like forwards and centers set strong screens, but other players might work in the play.
For example, in this play, Russell Westbrook is handling the play calling. Westbrook is looking to make a play with one of the other Thunder players. That might be Steven Adams or in this case, Paul George. That non-ball handling player will come closer to the players near Westbrook. The non-ball handler sets a pick and then will move towards the basket. As that player moves to the basket, Westbrook dishes to him for what they hope is a successful layup.
Once the non-ball handler (pick-setting player) is in position, it’s time to run the play. To call for the play in the NBA Live 19 game, press LB on the Xbox One, or press L1 on the PlayStation 4. You’ll need to keep pressing on that particular controller button until the player without the ball comes closer to the ballhandler.
Once the non-ball handler moves into position to set the pick, it’s time to have them move. Tap on L1 on the PS4 or LB on the Xbox to get the non-ball handler to switch sides. Now they can make a move to the basket as your ball handler feeds them a pass.

Another thing you can do with this play is to have the non-ball handler “slip to the basket.” First, call for the pick-and-roll. Before that non-ball handler gets in position, quickly tap on L1 (PS4) or LB (Xbox One) and that player will slip towards the basket.
One other thing you’ll want to do with this play is to “pop out” on the picks. On the Xbox One press the Left Stick, or on the PS4 press the L3 to make this happen. Your player will pop out from the pick towards the hoop for a layup. The GIF below shows that off as Westbrook and George run the play.
This will take some practice to be able to use the pick-and-roll play call in NBA Live 19 regularly. However, once you’ve got it down, you’ll have another helpful play to help score when needed!
