Even though the launch of Black Ops 4 has gone pretty smoothly, one issue that Treyarch is currently working on is in improving the game’s network latency. Reports have recently surfaced regarding the title’s online multiplayer performance. Compared to the game’s beta period, it appears that the tick rate — which is the number of times per second an online game processes data in relation to the server — has been significantly downgraded.
What’s wrong with the current online servers?
For context, the Black Ops 4 beta period allegedly operated on servers running at 60Hz. However, the current launch servers run at a lower rate of 20Hz. YouTuber Battle(non)sense undertook one of the investigations. He chalks up the issue to the newly implemented Blackout mode. You can check out his in-depth video here.
Thankfully, Treyarch has heard the community loud and clear. As a result, the studio is busy working on several updates to address the problem. Via Reddit, Treyarch explained, “Now that we’re past the initial launch of the game, we are focusing on fine-tuning network performance across the globe, using the real-world data we have collected. Over the course of the next two weeks, we will roll out several updates to our network setup that will continue to improve upon the experience of our players since launch.”
To be fair, Treyarch has also been busy addressing a ton of other minor issues with brand new updates arriving to both the Multiplayer and Zombies modes recently. Long story short, Treyarch have had their plates pretty full, but are working hard to iron out the community’s complaints.
