The New Battlefield 5 Wake Island Map is Now Live

Wake Island is, for many long-term fans of Battlefield, the most iconic map of the franchise. Now, this classic map is finally available in Battlefield 5, complete with a modern redesign. The Battlefield 5 Wake Island map is the third new map of War in the Pacific and is now available to play in-game as of today.

The Battlefield 5 Wake Island Map Redesign

DICE released an overview trailer for the Battlefield 5 Wake Island map last week, giving players their first glimpses of what the map would look like in its most modern iteration. Now, players can get to grips with this map for themselves. Indeed, the new weekly challenge, which is offering a brand-new LMG upon completion, features a pure Wake Island playlist. The new version of the map is twice the size of the original Wake Island from Battlefield 1942, with boats, aircraft, and land vehicles.

The horseshoe-shaped island features 7 objective markers, arranged from one end of the island all the way around to the other. While players will be pushing one way or another up and down the island, the shape also offers players the opportunity to flank by taking boats across the bay. (Although doing so potentially exposes them to enemy gunfire.)

At present, Wake Island focuses on two core game modes; Breakthrough and Conquest. In Breakthrough, players can expect Wake Island to feature fast-paced, frenetic gameplay. On the other hand, Conquest is likely to be slower, with greater use of fortifications, trenches, and so on. Breakthrough gives players access to tanks immediately, while the defenders don’t get tanks until later in the match; one of the factors that help to push the speed of the match early on. Of course, Wake Island features plenty of the new vehicles added to the game as part of the War in the Pacific Chapter, including new boats and amphibious vehicles.
