After serving its time on the Overwatch PTR, the new Busan control map went live today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The new map is set in tank hero D.Va’s hometown of Busan, South Korea and has three main areas: a sanctuary, D.Va’s MEKA base, and a downtown area. Each area has its own feel and encourages different play styles, which is a perfect recipe for some exciting Overwatch matches.
As usual, the new map will remain disabled in Overwatch’s competitive queue for a few weeks, giving players a chance to get used to it in the game’s other modes first.
The Busan control map was revealed on Aug. 22 during an Overwatch fan event in South Korea, alongside a new cinematic featuring D.Va herself. The map has been on the PTR since.
D.Va also got a new Epic skin in August, called Nano-Cola D.Va, that was only unlockable during the D.Va’s Nano-Cola Challenge event, which has since ended. Players that didn’t earn the new skin, though, will still be able to see it on the Busan map.
But the new map isn’t the only new thing on Overwatch’s live servers today.
The update also brought quite a few important changes to some heroes, including Reinhardt, Ana, Brigitte, and Widowmaker.
Reinhardt saw the biggest changes, with a complete overhaul to his Earthshatter ability in an effort to patch out its bugs. Earthshatter should now consistently hit enemies near walls and “no longer hit enemies that enter the damage cone after the ‘wave’ has passed.” Enemies won’t get hit by the ability if they’re behind barriers now and the ability will also always travel up inclines and around the payload, according to Blizzard.
Meanwhile, Ana and Widowmaker both got “increased precision” for their relative aim sensitivity sliders, specifically for when players are zoomed in using sniper mode. Widowmaker also got a slight adjustment to her Grappling Hook momentum. Brigitte’s Shield Bash now “knocks down and gets knocked down by other charging targets,” like Doomfist or Reinhardt.
There were a few other changes in this patch in regards to general updates, map adjustments, and competitive play updates.
- General Updates: Players are now able to see visual outlines of allies to make them visible through walls. There are also aim assist changes.
- Map Updates – Rialto: Payload travel speed has been increased, while the amount of time the payload stops at checkpoints has been reduced.
- Competitive Play: These updates only impact Grand Master players, allowing those high up on the ladder to group up with players within a 350 skill rating range, instead of the previous 250 limit.
