Battlefield 5’s fourth Tides of War chapter, Defying the Odds, is currently underway. Thus far, DICE has released two new maps; Al Sundan and Marita, the former set in North Africa while the latter takes place in Greece. However, Chapter 4 is set to feature more new maps than any previous Tides of War chapter, and to that end, there are another two new Battlefield 5 maps coming later this month; Lofoten Islands and Provence. These are maps specifically designed for the new Close-Quarters game mode.
The Upcoming Battlefield 5 Maps: Lofoten Islands and Provence
The upcoming new Lofoten Islands and Provence Battlefield 5 maps were first announced at the start of Chapter 4. “Destroy an explosives production factory in Lofoten Islands,” said DICE; “Unseat the Axis occupation in Provence. Get up-close and personal on maps tailored for intimate infantry combat where teamwork, skill, and adaptation are your keys to victory.”
In addition to the standard weekly challenges and other regular updates, Chapter 4’s August schedule includes two major features. The first is an increase to the game’s maximum Career Rank, boosting it up to 500. The second and larger feature is Close-Quarters; a new game mode focused on close-range infantry combat. Lacking vehicles, these maps will feature smaller-than-average teams. Perhaps even smaller than the team sizes in the Squad Conquest game mode.
Lofoten Islands takes place on a small island somewhere in Scandinavia. Indeed, the map bears some resemblance to the game’s Firestorm map, which is also in Scandinavia. Provence, meanwhile, takes place in a small French town. While Lofoten features verticality in the island’s small cliffs and hills, Provence emphasises narrow urban streets. In both cases, gameplay is likely to be fast-paced and frenetic, with players constantly on the move. Currently, there’s no firm release date for these two upcoming maps. However, the mid-point of August is swiftly approaching, leaving DICE with less and less time to launch them. They could well be coming very soon.
