Hot on the heels of last week’s Mid-Season Update and the release of a new roadmap, Treyarch has revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will finally be getting its second Zombies map. Entitled ‘Firebase Z,’ this new map will continue the Dark Aether storyline which began in the first map.
Black Ops Cold War Zombies – Firebase Z
“With the destruction of the WWII-era ‘Projekt Endstation’ site after investigating the otherworldly Dark Aether anomaly in Poland,” explains Treyarch; “Requiem now sets its focus on the latest Dark Aether outbreak site; Outpost 25, known by the code name ‘Firebase Z’.”
At present, Treyarch hasn’t given much away about what this new map will include. The studio did share a teaser image of a teleportation device, with the attached note; “New Omega teleportation system connects village to Omega facility”. Treyarch has also released a teaser screenshot of what appears to be an otherworldly new enemy which will feature in Firebase Z. Fans will have to wait until closer to the launch date for more details, however. The map is due to release in-game on the 4th of February.
Firebase Z is, without a doubt, the headline feature of “Season One Reloaded”; the second half of Black Ops Cold War’s first season. However, it isn’t the only thing coming in the next few weeks. Players can look forward to the last new Operator of the season on the 21st, for instance, as well as several new gameplay modes and a new map later in the season. The new Onslaught mode – a 2-player variant of the core Zombies mode – will also be getting new maps. (Though these won’t actually be new per se, but rather repurposed maps from the game’s core multiplayer.)
Writing of Firebase Z, Treyarch has stated that; “We’ve got plenty more in store that we can’t wait to share in the coming weeks”. As such, fans should expect more teases and details to emerge about the new map relatively soon.
