Bethesda director Todd Howard recently led a Fallout 76 panel at the QuakeCon 2018 event. During the panel, he and other developers discussed the game’s progression system and new Perk Cards. The studio also debuted a new Fallout 76 trailer, which has now been released on YouTube.
“Let’s Work With Others!”: New Fallout 76 Trailer
The new “Let’s Work With Others!” Fallout 76 trailer emphasizes the game’s multiplayer features. Todd Howard did a good job explaining how Fallout 76 approaches multiplayer; all told, he likely assuaged a lot of fan fears about the concept.
The new Fallout 76 trailer highlights the game’s focus on cooperative multiplayer rather than PvP. “Don’t find yourself downtrodden by your new life outside of Vault 76,” states the trailer’s opening monologue; “other Vault Dwellers are here to help! The latest episode teaches you more on the values of friendship and teamwork.”
Fallout 76 is clearly designed with multiplayer in mind. Although the game is playable solo, there won’t be a way to play the game without the possibility of running into other players. (At least, not at launch; it has been suggested that Bethesda will eventually implement private servers.) Luckily, it sounds as though Bethesda has a robust system for discouraging griefers. PvP in Fallout 76 gives players the choice of opting in or out of fights, and players who refuse to abide by this system are harshly punished. The system even puts bounties on the heads of griefing players. It even takes the bounty out of the player’s own store of caps!
Fallout 76’s multiplayer system is likely to make things like base-building much faster than in previous games. In addition, having a team of players scavenging for loot should be a great deal more efficient. Considering that bases in Fallout 76 can be destroyed, dismantled, or rebuilt using blueprints; having a team to help with assembly should be a perk in its own right.
