During last year’s Game Awards show, developer 10 Chambers Collective unveiled its newest project, a tense co-op shooter which had what is perhaps one of the least subtle names in the entire history of gaming: GTFO. Since then, we haven’t heard much about GTFO, but now 10 Chambers has released a lengthy new nine-minute gameplay trailer that shows just how easily things can go south if players aren’t careful.
The best way to describe GTFO is as a mixture of Left 4 Dead and Aliens. A team of four players must venture into a vast underground labyrinth (which also happens to be procedurally generated) in order to find supplies and complete specific objectives. However, as you might have already fathomed, the players aren’t alone in this underground complex. Hostile alien creatures also roam around the complex’s darkened halls and tunnels, and if the players make too much noise they can find themselves quickly overwhelmed by a sheer flood of fast-moving creatures.
The new gameplay trailer shows just how tense an average GTFO match can be. Even though the players have a variety of firearms and helpful gadgets (like an automated turret and proximity mines) at their disposal, a few erroneous shots is all it takes to alert the hive and summon a whole heap of trouble. Fortunately, guns aren’t the players’ only option as the trailer also shows how melee weapons and stealth tactics can be utilized to quietly dispatch isolated aliens. The trailer also shows how alerting a hive of aliens doesn’t necessarily mean game over, but if the brood starts to swarm you better make darn sure you’re hunkered down and ready for it, else you won’t last long.
GTFO doesn’t yet have a set release date but 10 Chambers Collective plans on launching it for PC sometime before the end of 2018. If you enjoy stealth gameplay, you should also check out the recently revealed Wild West game This Land is My Land. As for co-op shooters, Avalanche Studios’ upcoming title Generation Zero looks like it will be another solid contender, though it has also found itself in a bit of hot water with a well-known Swedish artist.
