The NBA 2K21 release date is approaching, and gamers are anticipating all of the surprises. Interestingly, 2K has been unveiling them bit-by-bit in the lead up to the game’s release. Just yesterday, we saw a look at five new jump-shot landings in the game, out of a total of 40. As of Sunday, 2K revealed a first-look at a few of the new NBA 2K21 classic teams.
NBA 2K21 classic teams to include KD’s Warriors, Kawhi’s Raptors
The NBA 2K21 classic teams are generally rosters that were championship winners or contenders in their day. In this case, 2K has revealed the reigning NBA champions, the 2018-19 Toronto Raptors as one of the two teams. That particular squad still had Kawhi Leonard on the roster, as he captured a second NBA Finals MVP Award. Leonard now plays for the LA Clippers and is attempting to win a third.
However, the Raptors are still a formidable opponent with other roster members. They include All-Star players Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam, along with big man Marc Gasol.
The other team revealed is the 2016-17 Golden State Warriors. This team featured NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who has since left for the Brooklyn Nets. They also featured stars Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green.
That Warriors squad achieved an impressive 67-15 record en route to the NBA Finals. In that matchup, they defeated LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, 4-1 to win it all.
More classics and surprises expected
The other NBA 2K21 classic teams are not officially revealed yet. In the NBA 2K20 game, they added six new classic teams. Those included the 2002-03 Phoenix Suns, 2006-07 Washington Wizards, 2009-10 Portland Trail Blazers, 2013-14 Los Angeles Clippers, 2013-14 San Antonio Spurs, and 2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers.
It’s worth noting there were recent Manu Ginobili rumors that he’ll return to 2K21 after being absent from 2K20. It’s unknown if that means he’ll be on a Spurs classic team, though. Still, there may be some surprises on the way.
The NBA 2K21 demo is also available ahead of the game’s release. It has just four playable teams in it. They include the current Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers. Also featured are the All-Time Boston Celtics and All-Time Los Angeles Lakers.
The new NBA 2K21 game arrives on Sept. 4 for PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.
