EA Sports’ rival 2K Sports has scored a major win in the battle over sports video game titles. They’ll now be partnering with HB Studios to bring out a new PGA Tour game as EA continues its hiatus from their involvement with golf. That gives 2K Sports another title to add to their catalog with physical copies of the new game arriving soon.
On Tuesday (Aug. 28), a PGA Tour press release announced the big news that 2K Sports will now partner with Canadian independent developer HB Studios. Together they’ll publish “The Golf Club 2019” which will fill the void left by EA Sports’ previous golf titles. The new game arrived on PlayStation 4, XBox, and PCs via digital download at a price of $49.99. Physical copies of the game are set for release later this fall.
However, it provides 2K a leg up on their competition, in addition to their popular NBA 2K basketball title. Back in July, 2K Sports partnered with Saber Interactive to publish NBA 2K Playgrounds 2.

A comment from HB Studios CEO Alan Bunker captured his excitement over the new deal with 2K Sports:
We couldn’t be happier to align with 2K and the PGA Tour to share our passion for golf and sports simulation gameplay with franchise enthusiasts and newcomers worldwide.
This past May, Gamespot reported about the agreement between HB Studios and PGA Tour. That particular licensing deal allows HB to bring many “officially licensed courses” to their game. The PGA Tour courses in the new title are described as “accurate down to one-meter of resolution” when compared to their real-life counterparts.
The new PGA Tour game The Golf Club 2019 brings a variety of features and modes too. That includes the ability to go through a Q-School and Web.com Tour which, if successful, can land a player a spot in the 32-tournament PGA Tour Season. That can ultimately mean playing for the FedEx Cup Championship. However, there are no PGA Tour players to use, as gamers will need to play as other characters.
EA Sports’ last golf title was 2015’s “Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.” It was EA’s attempt to revive their golf titles after losing previous franchise star Tiger Woods. Unfortunately, the Rory McIlroy title did not fare well and EA Sports didn’t release any PGA games the past several years. Gamespot also mentioned that the title has been removed from all digital platforms which could have something to do with the new 2k Sports partnership. However, the site clarified that EA Sports has maintained they still have a relationship with the PGA Tour.
