A new mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim offers players a very different experience than what they may be used to from Bethesda’s bestselling RPG. Called “The Island,” the Skyrim mod turns the title into a survival-style game.

Released late last month, and recently updated, “The Island” features a new area, with quests, new mechanics, and a new upgrade-able companion. The Skyrim mod was made by a modder who goes by aaronbrown9898. It can be downloaded from NexusMods. When players install the mod, they can either choose to start a new game shipwrecked on the island, or else they can board a ship in Dawnstar. The latter option is available for players who want to try out the mod with existing characters. The mod features the ability to create gardens in up to three different locations, and a new companion which functions similarly to a summon spell. There is also a major Dwemer city on the island.
“You were aboard a ship to Skyrim,” states aaronbrown9898’s mod description; “Along the way a terrible storm throws the ship off course and the ship crashes on the shores of a long forgotten island. As the only survivor of the ship you will have to survive on the island while discovering ancient Dwemer Ruins. There are cabins around the island that you can set up a small player home in. At each cabin is all the necessary crafting stations for a survival game. There are gardens at each cabin for all your alchemical needs. There is a large focus on exploration. You will find a ship to repair to make it to Skyrim… There are weapons and armor that can be upgraded with gems found around the island. There are quests to find and complete while on the island.”
