With the first anniversary of Splatoon 2 coming on the 21st of July, Nintendo is hosting a worldwide Splatfest. For those that don’t know, Splatfests are tournaments where you have to pick one of two teams. Announced on the Nintendo Versus Twitter page, players will have to choose between Team Squid and Team Octopus. More noteworthy, if you choose Team Squid, you’ll play as an Inkling, and if you choose Team Octopus, you get to play as an Octoling.
Other Splatoon 2 Splatfests
This is far from the first Splatfest to take place. They started with the first Splatoon game on the Wii U and came back for the sequel. The first one for Splatoon 2 had you choose between Team Cake and Team Ice Cream. Other ones included Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy, Flight vs. Invisibility, Money vs. Love, Vampires vs. Werewolves, and the most recent one had you choose Team Pulp or No-Pulp. The results of each Splatfest come a day or two after it ends.
Also, Different stages also accompany each Splatfest. Regions like Europe and Japan get different teams to choose from. For example, Europe got Team Film vs. Team Book and Japan got Team Rock vs. Team Pop. In the U.S., Nintendo held Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed Splatfests where you had to choose between the different Ninja Turtles. Furthermore, Japan got a McDonalds themed one where you’re either on Team Fries or McNugget. The Splatfests are a fun way to keep players invested and make you ask the important questions in life (Baseball vs. Soccer, Action vs. Comedy, etc.).
To make this anniversary event a little more special, during Splatfest battles players on #TeamSquid will play as Inklings, and players on #TeamOctopus will play as Octolings, even if you don’t have the Octo Expansion! pic.twitter.com/nc1h5kRoqt
