Lightning Strikes is the second upcoming chapter of the Battlefield 5 Tides of War, the game’s post-launch content release programme. Due to release in just three days, on the 17th of January, DICE today released a new trailer for the impending chapter. The trailer gives players an overview of what to expect in Lightning Strikes, as well as a brief look ahead to the third chapter and the Firestorm battle royale game mode.
Battlefield 5 Tides of War Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes
Lightning Strikes is bringing a veritable host of new content to Battlefield 5, alongside a major game update. The event is due to span January, February, and early March, with new weekly challenges and rewards, as well as new content and game modes. The first of these new modes is Squad Conquest; a smaller version of the existing Conquest game mode which features just 2 squads on each team. The Rush game mode will also be making a return to the series. Following this release, another, larger mode is due to launch in February; Combined Arms. This mode will be a cooperative PvE mode allowing up to 4 players to face down waves of enemies.
Like Overture, each week of Lightning Strikes will bring a new set of weekly challenges. Completing these challenges will earn players a weekly reward, which will be a new weapon. Thus far, three of these weapons have been announced; the Zk-383 SMG for the Medic class, the M1922 MMG for the Support class, and the Modele 1944 Semi-Automatic Rifle for the Assault class.
Lightning Strikes is also bringing new vehicles to Battlefield 5, as shown in the trailer, along with new Company gear. Finally, the trailer concludes with a brief teaser for Firestorm, the upcoming battle royale mode. This mode is the headline feature for Trial by Fire, the third chapter of Battlefield 5 Tides of War. Trial by Fire is due to begin in March.
