In a move that may come as a surprise to some, Bethesda has today released the first official trailer for DOOM Eternal… on the Nintendo Switch. The trailer reveals what the first-person shooter will look like on the Switch, as well as the release date, which is barely more than one week away.
Doom Eternal Switch Release Date & Details
The previous DOOM is already playable on the Nintendo Switch, but it had been unknown whether its more recent successor would make the transition to the portable platform. After all, the Switch has significantly less internal storage and power than the other gaming consoles. However, it seems that Id Software have found a way to get the title onto the Switch. One thing which is evident from the trailer is that the game will have a graphical downgrade to some extent.
This decision isn’t surprising. Other large triple-A games which have come to the Switch, such as The Witcher 3, have done the same thing. Indeed, the game still looks impressive despite the downgrade. (Which is likely to be less noticeable on the smaller Switch screen itself.) Of course, if gamers were to compare it on a larger screen with the Switch docked to the game running on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation, the difference would be more pronounced. However, this is a fairly small price to pay for Switch users to get access to the game.
Interestingly, the DOOM Eternal Switch port will give players the option to aim with gyro controls. “The option can be used in conjunction with the control stick for the perfect blend of immersion and accuracy,” writes Bethesda. Of course, players may wish to simply use a more traditional controller. In this case, the game will play much as it does on the other major consoles.
