New Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Gameplay Trailer Released

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will be the first true Witcher RPG since the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game was only announced a few weeks ago, and is set to release on the 23rd of October on PC. A console release will follow in early December. As we draw nearer to the release date, CD Projekt Red has unveiled a new gameplay trailer.

The New Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales Gameplay Trailer

The official gameplay trailer follows on from two longer videos released by CD Projekt Red; both a developer live-stream and a video walkthrough showcased the first 45-minutes or so of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. However, this is only a very small part of the total game. The studio has said that Thronebreaker includes over 30 hours of story content. The trailer gives players a different sort of glimpse of the game. It shows moments of gameplay from the game’s different regions, including Angren and Mahakam. The game will take players to five different regions, most of which have never before featured in a Witcher game.

Geralt of Rivia is Implied to Appear in Thronebreaker

The protagonist, Meve, is Queen of Lyria and Rivia; this will be the first time Rivia actually features in a Witcher game. The game will also return to Aedirn for the first time since The Witcher 2. The game’s story is set prior to the events of The Witcher 2, during the second war between Nilfgaard and the Northern Realms. As the trailer explains, players will face the invading armies of Nilfgaard and need to find allies in the fight.

The trailer also highlights the upcoming cast of characters who will feature in Thronebreaker. Many of these are completely new to the Witcher series. Some feature in the original Witcher novels, such as Eyck of Denesle. Others characters have made appearances in previous games from CD Projekt Red. Indeed, while not explicitly stated, it is heavily implied that Geralt of Rivia will make an appearance in some role during Thronebreaker’s story.
