Operation Excision is the latest expansion to the Dark Aether storyline in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, launching today as part of Season 4. However, Operation Excision is just the prologue to the next full Zombies chapter, which is coming later in the season.
Black Ops Cold War Zombies: Mauer der Toten
The new Operation Excision expansion is a new Main Quest in Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak mode. The operation features a new map, which takes place in an undead-infested zoo, and the next part of the Dark Aether story. However, according to Treyarch, the new operation is just the; “narrative prologue to the next round-based map coming mid-season.”
That map is Mauer der Toten, and it will be the third round-based Zombies map, following Die Machine and Firebase Z. This new chapter will take place after the events of Operation Excision, and will take place in East Berlin. In the ongoing story, zombies have overrun the German capital, bringing Zombies to an urban setting for the first time in Black Ops Cold War. For now, Treyarch is keeping most details about Mauer der Toten under wraps. However, they have dropped a few hints.
“Players will take on new terrors,” writes Treyarch, about the new map; “in war-torn East Berlin after a devastating zombie invasion has overtaken the city”. Futhermore, Treyarch goes on to state that; “expect ‘Mauer der Toten’ to offer plenty of new twists, turns, and terrifying undead threats for players to conquer”. Both of these statements seem to imply that the map will feature new types of undead enemies. Given that there has been a growing trend for Treyarch to add bigger and more horrifying enemies into Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode, this wouldn’t exactly be surprising. For now though, players will have to wait for more news later in Season 4.
