During the course of 2020, Borderlands 3 fans have been treated to three major story DLC releases, not to mention numerous events and updates. Now, Gearbox is preparing for the next-gen release of Godfall, but it seems that they won’t be moving totally away from Borderlands just yet. Today, the studio announced the release date of their upcoming Borderlands 3 next-gen upgrade!
The Borderlands 3 Next-Gen Upgrade
“When the next-gen consoles arrive in just a few short weeks,” writes Gearbox; “the award-winning mayhem of Borderlands 3 will be there on day one. We’re proud to confirm that next-gen Borderlands 3 will be available day-and-date alongside the new consoles.”
Borderlands 3 will be available to play first on the Xbox Series X, when that console releases on the 10th of November. Two days later, it will be available on the PlayStation 5. However, it will initially only be available in seven regions; the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea. This is because the PS5 is launching on different dates in different global regions. On the 19th of November, it will be available around the rest of the world, together with Borderlands 3.
The Borderlands 3 next-gen upgrade will be completely free for anybody who owns a copy of the game and a next-gen console. The core feature of the upgrade is a graphical improvement. Both consoles will allow Borderlands 3 to play at 60 FPS in 4K resolution, both in single-player and online co-op. Furthermore, both consoles will allow for three- and four-player split-screen in local multiplayer. The upgrade also includes a feature to allow for vertical two-player split-screen; a feature that will also be coming to current-gen consoles in its own update.
When the next-gen consoles launch, existing players should find it easy to switch over to the new hardware. Borderlands 3 players will be able to port their existing save files and DLC content over to their new console as soon as it arrives.
