On Friday, NHL 20 HUT revealed their nominees for Team of the Year. There’s a total of 36 players up for consideration, but only a select few will end up making the team. Amongst the star players receiving nominations are Connor McDavid, Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, John Carlsson, and Leon Draisatl. However, there are some surprisingly notable ommissions from the HUT TOTY nominees as well.
36 NHL 20 HUT Team of the Year nominees revealed
The NHL 20 HUT Team of the Year nominees consist of 22 forwards, eight defensemen, and six goaltenders. As mentioned, they feature stars of the game such as current NHL 20 cover athlete Auston Matthews as well as Stanley Cup champions Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
Of course, there’s also the top-rated player in the game Connor McDavid along with his Edmonton Oilers teammate Leon Draisaitl. The forward position is considerably stacked, although McDavid clearly stands out based on his continued stats and NHL 20 ratings dominance. Draisaitl is right up there in the stats leaders, though.
Here’s a look at all 36 nominees revealed on the EA Sports NHL Twitter:
So who are some of the biggest snubs according to NHL 20 HUT fans? They include Buffalo Sabres star Jack Eichel, the Rangers’ Artemi Panarin, and the Islanders’ Mathew Barzal. Also mentioned by gamers are the inclusions of goalies Matt Murray and Carey Price amongst nominees. Many people feel Tuuka Rask is a much more deserving candidate than either of them.
However, a scan of the comments reveals that the fact Eichel is missing from these nominees is a big “L” in the minds of most of the community members. It’s no secret that Eichel has been tearing it up lately for the Sabres. The Buffalo center has 26 goals and 28 assists this season including a recent overtime winner against the Edmonton Oilers. His absence is extremely puzzling here.
How TOTY items work in Hockey Ultimate Team
There will be only six players selected for the NHL 20 HUT Team of the Year. NHL 20 will officially reveal them one week from today on January 10. All of the players have special TOTY items in NHL 20 HUT right now, with the six players who end up on the team getting upgraded items. Their HUT TOTY items receive an instant +8 boost and will continue to match their upgrades for the remainder of the year.
Those players who don’t make the squad will have their items as part of a special set to trade for one of the TOTY members. Those sets will also include Gold Collectibles. Team of the Year packs are currently available in the HUT Store starting at 5,000 Coins or 100 Points for a five-item pack.
More details are available here at EA’s NHL 20 website and inside the HUT mode on the game.
