NHL 20 Team of the Year Revealed: Players Include Connor McDavid, Nikita Kucherov
On January 10, EA Sports revealed the NHL 20 Team of the Year. Six players were announced from an initial field of many deserving nominees. Leading the way with new top-rated Hockey Ultimate Team cards are Connor McDavid and Nikita Kucherov. Here are more details about the NHL 20 TOTY players and their special items.
McDavid, Kucherov headline NHL 20 Team of the Year
Originally there were 36 NHL 20 nominees and that resulted in just six players making the final TOTY. Former cover star Connor McDavid gets a new 95 overall card as does the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Kucherov. McDavid continues to lead the league with a total of 70 points this season thanks to his 24 goals and 46 assists.
Kucherov has 49 points this season with a total of 32 assists and 17 goals. Two of those goals came this past Thursday in a 4-0 win as the Lightning are second in the Atlantic Division.
They’re followed by Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin with a 94 OVR rating. The San Jose Sharks’ Brent Burns gets a 93 OVR card followed by the Capitals’ John Carlson at 90 and goalie Jordan Binnington with an 89 OVR.
EA gifted each of the NHL 20 Team of the Year players with special golden skates for the honor. Several of the players shared tweets with videos or photos to show off their shiny awards.
That included the Sharks’ Brendan Burns who presented a tweet including several pics of the unboxing and display of his skates.
With two Washington Capitals on the NHL 20 TOTY, they appeared in a video together opening up their new skates. Ovechkin posted the video with the caption, “wow the skates are sick!!!” Carlson also tweeted out the same video clip featuring NHL 20 highlight footage.
Player cards and challenges now available
All of the NHL 20 Team of the Year winners are now available in sets and packs in the Hockey Ultimate Team mode. Packs start as low as 5,000 Coins or 100 Points for a five-item pack. A 12-item pack is 17,500 Coins or 350 Points, while a higher-level 12-item pack is 75,000 Coins or 1,500 Points.
There is also 25 Team of the Year challenges available. Gamers can earn Team of the Year Collectibles by completing these limited-time challenges in HUT. They include six Weekday Challenges, 10 Team of the Year Challenges, and nine Team of the Year Elite Challenges.
