NHL 21 HUT Rush Gameplay: First-Look at New Game Mode for Ultimate Team
EA has revealed a new mode that will be part of the NHL 21 Ultimate Team experience. It’s called NHL 21 HUT Rush and features a variety of new ways to play the game. They’ll include everything from playable mascots to different types of rules or restrictions on the games. Here are more of the details and a look at some of the gameplay for HUT Rush.
New NHL 21 HUT Rush details revealed with gameplay
Tuesday, September 22, brought us the first-look at NHL 21 HUT Rush. HUT is, of course, Hockey Ultimate Team, a mode in the EA simulation game allowing gamers to put together a roster full of stars from the past and present. However, HUT Rush is looking to take things even further and seems very similar to several modes in EA’s Madden and FIFA titles.
So what is the new NHL 21 mode all about? It’s billed as a “fast, fun new way to play HUT.” It provides unique experiences for hockey fans to enjoy the game in Ultimate Team. NHL 21 HUT Rush will allow for 5-v-5, 3-v-3, and Threes Arcade-style games in the mode.
There will be various types of games in the mode including First Goal Wins or something called Money Puck. Gamers will be able to earn Hockey Ultimate Team Rewards as well.
Points will be awarded based on in-game performance and the difficulty of scoring. You’ll notice those in the upper righthand corner of the screen in the EA Sports NHL video below.
As you can also see in the video clip up above, there are mascots on the ice. That’s right, various NHL team mascots will be participants in the unique HUT Rush games, which can take place on Olympic-sized ice and outdoors.
More first-look gameplay revealed via YouTube
At first look, NHL Hut Rush appears to be quite similar to things like Squad Battles or Solos in the FIFA and Madden games. Both games have also unveiled crazy new modes over the past several years with FIFA’s VOLTA and Madden’s Superstar KO or The Yard. However, those new modes aren’t too connected to Ultimate Team.
At least one YouTuber has also revealed a first-look at a bit more of the NHL 21 HUT Rush gameplay. EA provided them with four minutes of footage to show off as he talks about some of the major aspects of the new mode.

The NHL 21 release date is on October 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Customers who pre-ordered The Great Eight or Deluxe Edition will get the option to start playing three days earlier on October 13, 2020.
