NHL 21 Player Ratings Revealed for Top 10 Defensemen Including Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson
The NHL 21 player ratings reveals continue this week, as EA Sports unveiled their top 10 defensemen on Monday. These are the guys who take no prisoners when out on the ice and keep their opponents off balance and frazzled. Leading the way is Victor Hedman, but he’s tied with two other defensemen for the best rating amongst them.
Top 10 defensemen revealed for NHL 21 player ratings
In the NHL 21 top 10 goalies for the player ratings, we saw Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy take the top spot with a 91 overall. Another member of the Stanley Cup winners leads the way for defensemen, as Victor Hedman is listed at No. 1 with a 91 OVR as well.
Hedman finished the past season with 11 goals and 44 assists for a total of 55 points. The 10-year Tampa Bay veteran also provided an assist in his team’s recent Stanley Cup-clinching victory.
Two other players also received 91 OVRs in the NHL 21 player ratings. They are John Carlson of the Washington Capitals and Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings. Rounding out the top five are Roman Josi and Alex Pietrangelo, each with 90 OVRs.
Interestingly, Erik Karlsson is No. 6 with an 89 overall. He was a 90 OVR last year and ranked among the top 21 players.

Based on fan reactions to the EA Sports NHL tweet, many people are questioning Drew Doughty being rated as high as he is. Some even joke that he was good five or six years ago and the 91 OVR reflects that. Others are simply calling Doughty overrated for the upcoming game.
Another group of commenters is questioning why Seth Jones is not in the top five of these NHL 21 player ratings. The Columbus Blue Jackets star appeared in 56 games this past season, tallying six goals and 24 assists. Some fans feel Jones should maybe be on the top 10 list above in place of Hedman.
The NHL 21 player ratings debates are likely to continue as EA reveals more of these this week. We’re expecting to see wings and centers next, including Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. EA could choose to do a top 30 or something like that, though. Stay tuned as more OVRs arrive.
