With EA set to release their newest hockey video game in mid-October, NHL 21 player ratings are slowly trickling in for some of the top stars on the ice. In the past several days, EA has revealed the numbers of Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby and the Chicago Blackhawks’ star Jonathan Toews. Here’s a look at where they stack up and who else has been revealed so far.
Crosby, Toews among latest NHL 21 player ratings revealed
Sunday (Sept. 27) brought two of the latest NHL 21 player ratings with Pittsburgh Penguins stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Crosby, who is entering his 16th year in the league gets a 93 overall, which actually ties him with NHL cover star Alex Ovechkin. Meanwhile, Evgeni Malkin gets a 91 overall.
For Crosby, it’s his fourth-straight season getting a 93 OVR for the EA Sports hockey title. He’s actually never been lower than a 91 OVR in the game, going way back to NHL 07. Malkin gets a slight boost over his 90 in the NHL 20 ratings, but he’s been as high as 93 overall before.
Just a day before the Crosby and Malkin ratings reveal the NHL 21 ratings arrived for the Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews. He’s been around since NHL 09 where he started as an 85 OVR and got up as high as 94 OVR in NHL 16.
Ovechkin, Kucherov among other reveals
Other players revealed include Ovechkin, who checked in with a 93 OVR this season. The cover star brought a lot of expectations or was overrated in NHL 07 at 95 OVR. Since then he’s managed to remain at 91 or higher. He gets a one-point boost heading into the next season of NHL 21 ratings.
In addition to Ovechkin, EA revealed NHL 21 ratings for Montreal Canadiens Carey Price (90) and Shea Webber (88), as well as Boston Bruins Patrice Bergeron (91) and Brad Marchand (91). The Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov gets a 92 OVR, while Tyler Seguin is a 91 OVR.
Interestingly, EA has been releasing NHL 21 ratings for players in a random fashion, rather than showing off the top-ranked players or top 50. That said, we’d expect as the game’s release date draws closer will have an idea of who the best players are in the game.
