NHL 22 Beta Details: Closed Technical Test Registration Opens For Upcoming Game

While EA’s sports titles Madden and FIFA have been getting plenty of attention and hype in recent weeks, news about a new NHL game has been rare. However, they’ve recently announced the NHL 22 beta technical test registration. That’s a good sign for fans to let them know a new edition of the game is still on the way. Here are the full details of what the test involves, which systems it’s for and how to sign up for the beta program.

EA announces NHL 22 Beta: Closed Technical Test

On Friday, August 6, 2021, EA Sports NHL Twitter shared that fans can currently register for the NHL 22 beta technical test. Gamers can play the new game as a “work in progress” and then give their feedback about what they like, or what isn’t working.

It’s also a closed technical test, meaning gamers need to follow the terms of service. No videos, capture, screenshots, or streaming are allowed as the game’s still in progress.

However, it’s a good way to get a feel for what’s on the way. The Closed Technical Test will be available to gamers with PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/S consoles.

The NHL 22 Technical Test is set to begin in August, and they’ve mentioned there are limited spots for those interested in trying out the beta game. To sign up, head over to EA’s NHL 22 page here.

The webpage features a registration form to fill in which requires choosing the preferred video game console, agreeing to terms of service, and providing an email address, country, and birthdate.

It’s also possible to log in with a valid EA account to try to register for the closed technical test.

That’s all there is to it. EA will provide emails to individuals who receive access to the beta technical test. Once that happens, gamers download the beta and test the available modes of the game out.

When does the new game come out?

We previously reported at VGR about our NHL 22 cover star and release date predictions. So far, EA hasn’t revealed anything for NHL, although we’ve seen the Madden 22 and FIFA 22 covers revealed. However, that seems right, based on the timing of EA’s previous NHL reveals.

The NHL 21 game featured Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin gracing the game’s covers (below). EA’s annual hockey title officially arrived on October 16, 2020, for the various consoles. With the NHL 22 technical test recently revealed for late August, it seems we should see the new game by mid-October.

Stay tuned as there are likely to be some reveals coming, but they may not arrive for several weeks. We’d expect at least a cover reveal trailer first along with various pre-order details, and then gameplay or features reveals after that.
