A classic video game from 27 years ago will be merged with EA’s NHL 21 later this month. It’s recently been revealed that the EA Sports hockey simulation title will have a bonus mode called NHL 94 Rewind. It’ll be free to play and give gamers a retroactive experience built into the new NHL 21 title.
What is NHL 94 Rewind?
Back in October, EA Sports released NHL ’94 for the Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was officially the third title in the NHL franchise and praised as one of the best sports video games of all time. Ever since then, EA has hoped to replicate the success of that particular title with its fanbase.
Fast forward to October 2020 with EA’s NHL 21 set to arrive. In a recent reveal, they let fans know that later in the month, the new game will bring the old school game back. NHL 94 Rewind will be a throwback to the previous title, only with the current hockey rosters available rather than those of the 1993 game.
Per EA’s website, NHL 94 Rewind features “today’s teams and today’s rosters with controls and graphics from 1994.”
EA Sports NHL released a quick video clip to tease the NHL 94 Rewind game in all of its retro, two-bit graphics glory.
The NHL 94 Rewind game is a mode available to play as part of NHL 21 two weeks after the wide release date. There’s no extra charge involved other than purchasing a copy of NHL 21. It joins other modes in the game such as the Hockey Ultimate Team and Be A Pro Career mode.
