With E3 2018 now behind us, Nintendo has already begun looking to the future. It was revealed in a recent interview that the beloved company could go back to a live E3 press conference format in the future. This would be a grand return for the Big N, considering that it hasn’t hosted a traditional press conference at E3 in several years. In fact, the last one was in 2012.
Ever since the Wii U generation of consoles, Nintendo has skipped out on joining Microsoft and Sony on the big stage in favor of more intimate video presentations. That could change, though, according to Charlie Scibetta, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for the company. Scibetta revealed the news in a recent interview with VentureBeat.
“We think that Nintendo Direct recently has been a nice way to do it because we’re able to package interviews and gameplay and fine-tune it, so it’s a nice tight presentation. It’s an efficient use of time. It’s a good way to bring these games to life in a video format. In the future, we might go back to a presentation. We might stick with video. We might do something completely different. But it’ll all be based on what we have to show that year.”
The switch to video presentations only at E3 certainly made sense back in 2013. The Wii U generation wasn’t the most successful for Nintendo by a long shot. The Switch is a beloved console, though, seeing record-breaking success for the company. Time will tell if that success will lead it to go big at next year’s E3 where we will, hopefully, get more info on games like Metroid Prime 4 and the next generation of Pokemon games.
This year, Nintendo had a pretty exciting E3, focusing on a slew of new games including Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The company had a lot to say about the ultimate game in the series, which you can check out here.
