With a release only a month away, Octopath Traveler Producer Tomoya Asano has been going around spreading the word on the Nintendo Switch-exclusive game. While speaking with Game Informer in a recent interview about the upcoming JRPG, Asano spoke on the future of his division of developers at Square Enix. Asano and the rest of the developers behind Octopath just became its own development team back in April.
The purpose of the Octopath Traveler development division will be making Nintendo Switch games. This is great news for Switch owners, as the highly-anticipated JRPG is certain to not be the last Switch game from the developer. Asano noted that the company was totally behind this, as it was Square Enix that “decided that it wants to focus on original titles for Switch.” This isn’t unlike Square Enix’s recent approach to the 3DS.
The Nintendo 3DS saw many exclusive games from Square Enix that were well received, not least of which was the Bravely Default series from Tomoya Asano himself. In fact, Asano’s team already has “several other titles” are currently being worked on for Switch. According to him, fans will need to wait a bit longer as they are working with Nintendo to announce them in the future, presumably well after the launch of Octopath Traveler or during the Nintendo E3 2018 media showcase.
Potential new Switch announcements could also take place during Square Enix’s E3 press conference next week; a first for the company in several years. We suspect that not only will Octopath Traveler get some time in the spotlight there, but other anticipated games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake. We haven’t heard much on that game at all recently, outside of a brand new screenshot. For more on Octopath Traveler, keep it locked right here as we approach its release date of July 13th.
