The hype for Cyberpunk 2077 among fans is certainly palpable, and perhaps the most obvious indication of that now is the game’s pre-order figures. While CD Projekt Red hasn’t made said figures public, they did recently reveal an interesting tidbit; that among every three digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077‘s PC version, one was pre-ordered on GOG.com.
GOG.com is Benefiting Greatly from Cyberpunk 2077 Pre-Orders
It’s highly likely that Cyberpunk 2077 pre-orders are selling extremely well. After all, the game is perhaps the most-anticipated game currently heading for release. When it comes to pre-orders, gamers do have plenty of options, depending on platform and whether they want a digital or physical edition. Digital copies of the PC version are available on several online retail platforms, including Steam and, of course, GOG.com; the platform operated by CD Projekt itself. When it comes to size, the latter is, of course, much smaller than Steam. GOG.com’s niche has typically been older PC titles, although it has grown substantially in recent years.
Of course, being a branch of the company developing Cyberpunk 2077 has proven to be a significant boon for GOG.com. Ordinarily, pre-order figures would be much higher on a platform like Steam. However, it seems that many gamers want to support CD Projekt directly in this case. After all, pre-ordering on GOG.com ensures that CD Projekt takes 100% of the revenue. When bought on Steam, a cut of the cost of the game does go to Valve. CD Projekt Red recently tweeted out a thank you to fans for their support, saying; “Did you know – every third copy of the digital version of Cyberpunk 2077 for PC so far has been pre-ordered on GOG.com! Thank you for your support – it’s breathtaking!”

There’s a distinct possibility that Cyberpunk 2077 sales could break records on GOG.com when it launches next year. The platform didn’t rise to its current size until after the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As CD Projekt Red hasn’t released a triple-A RPG since then, this will be the first major internal release for GOG.com. Given how many gamers are currently coming to the platform in order to support the company thanks to Cyberpunk 2077, the future looks bright indeed for GOG.com.
