Operation Apocalypse Z, the penultimate chapter of the Aether Zombies story in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, is now available. The new release brings plenty of new content to the game, including new maps, a new Specialist, a hefty Blackout rework, and more. All told, fans of last year’s Call of Duty release should have a lot to sink their teeth into.
What’s New in Operation Apocalypse Z
The first major new addition to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is Reaper, the new robotic Specialist. Reaper is available at Contraband Tier 1 and comes armed with the Scythe, a heavy machine gun. Not only is the weapon boast high power and a high rate-of-fire, but it also applies suppression to whomever Reaper targets. The new robot’s Special Issue Equipment is Radar Shroud. This jamming device prevents enemies from viewing data on the mini-map. “It deploys like Recon’s Sensor Dart,” explains the blog post detailing Operation Apocalypse Z; “operating where it lands and blocking out an area on every enemy’s mini-map. Think of it as an ‘anti-Sensor’ Dart.”
Additionally, the new release brings a huge change to the Blackout map. As zombies rise in the end of days, Blackout has been turned into a nightmarish landscape. The new rework will feature in Solos, Duos, and Quads, and will include designated “Zombies” areas which may hold high-tier loot… at the risk of being devoured by the undead! Additionally, a new Quads playlist called “The Haunting Fog” will be available for a limited time. In this playlist, a strange fog will blanket the map, forcing players to move much more warily. The Alcatraz map also has a new variant called Nightfall, which takes place at night.
Operation Apocalypse Z also brings new game modes, weapon pickups, Humiliations, and weapons (including a disembodied zombie arm…). More gear is also available in the Black Market too, of course. Finally, the release brings a new game mode called Sticks & Stones. In this mode, players start with the most basic weapons, with Combat Axe kills resetting victims to zero score.
