The latest major content release for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, entitled Operation Apocalypse Z, recently released, bringing with it a ton of new content. The release further expands the Aether Zombies content with new map reworks, a new Zombies experience, and more. Included in the content release are also three new multiplayer maps; Der Schatten, Havana, and Remnant.
The Three New Black Ops 4 Maps in Operation Apocalypse Z
Der Schatten: The first of the three new Operation Apocalypse Z maps is Der Schatten. The map’s name, translated from German, means “The Shadow”. Der Schatten takes place in 1945 and is clearly inspired by the Zombies maps of past Call of Duty titles. “Travel through a time portal to 1945,” writes Treyarch; “where a fallen ‘Giant’ has leaked a mysterious blue substance across an unsuspecting town. The multiplayer map Der Schatten (“The Shadow”) leans on Zombies history to create a unique battleground centred around a fallen giant.”
Havana: Continuing on to another map inspired by past Call of Duty titles; The inspiration for Havana is in fact a map from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. Set in Cuba during the Cold War, the map is a stark contrast from Der Schatten, with the latter’s snowy night vista replaced by brilliant sunlight. “Cold War tensions rise as a war of ideology rages across the streets of Cuba,” writes Treyarch; “Prepare to take your fight to the streets of the Cuban capital in this intense Multiplayer map.”
Remnant: The third and final new multiplayer map, Remnant, is also very different from the other two. This map’s skies are choked with a greenish fog. Remnant is set in the Museum of Unnatural History in the festering marshlands of Louisiana. “This large-sized map features a bizarre number of objects on display to those who dare enter this repository, including a unique relic from the past that’s thirst for blood has laid waste to the museum’s staff and visitors.”
