Overwatch 1 was released in May back in 2016. And since then, this game has been smashing the charts in terms of e-sports and the total number of players. Overwatch is one of the top competitive games along with other titles like Call of Duty, CS: GO, and Fortnite. It’s recently announced that Blizzard’s AAA title will be getting a follow-up sequel that will take the players to Paris and will include the PvE side of the story. Currently, Overwatch 1 is pure action FPS, PvP title meaning there no PvE in the game. But with the reveal of Overwatch 2, it is now confirmed that the Overwatch franchise will be getting a PvE mode that will unwrap the story of the Heroes. Blizzard has commented on the release date of Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2 is Getting Released, When?
In an interview, Overwatch’s game director Jeff Kaplan said that the release date of Overwatch 2 is not close. And the game is currently in development. So, don’t mark your calendars just yet. The wait is long and full of… sorry, sorry, sorry (in Mei’s voice). So, as for the official statement from Blizzard, here’s what they said about the release of Overwatch 2:
“Blizzard didn’t withhold a release date for Overwatch 2 because it’s some big secret. It’s because the development team isn’t sure when it will release, and we may even have to wait until BlizzCon 2020 for a date.”
But, there has been an image circulating around the web lately. This image comes from a French retailer website which shows the release date of December 2020. Now, keep in mind that this release date is 99% a placeholder and is just updated there until we get an official release date for the game. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments!
Overwatch was released on May 24, 2016, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Overwatch 2 doesn’t have an exact release date at this moment but is expected to hit the consoles and PC in 2020.
