Sorry, Nintendo fans like ourselves, as it seems that an Overwatch Nintendo Switch version might not be happening anytime soon. Since the onset of the Switch’s launch, Overwatch has been one of the most requested and highly desired games for the hybrid console. The ability to play one of the most popular and frenetic competitive shooters out there anywhere at all is compelling but it doesn’t seem likely at this point in time.
The news regarding the Overwatch Nintendo Switch version comes by way of an interview with GameSpot. Activision Blizzard’s Matthew Hawley gave the developer’s thoughts and position on the possibility. According to Hawley, different versions of Overwatch on mobile or Switch are being “constantly evaluated” by the team. Making an Overwatch Nintendo edition comes with some “challenges” that have prevented it from already happening.
Because of this, the core development team is “focused on supporting the live game.” This certainly makes it hard to see the game coming to Switch or mobile devices for that matter anytime soon. The interview occurred in celebration of the second anniversary of Overwatch since its launch in 2016. The anniversary event is absolutely massive, bringing a ton of new content and activities for players to participate in.

Though an Overwatch Nintendo Switch version isn’t in the cards for Blizzard right now, that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost for it to come to Nintendo’s hybrid console. Nintendo is launching its online service in September and that could be the persuasion for major online-centric games like Overwatch to come over.
If this news of the Overwatch Nintendo Switch version is disappointing, you can be happy to know that the game is still expanding more. Blizzard is collaborating with LEGO and other companies to bring Overwatch to LEGO sets, apparel, and even Nerf guns.
