The ninth season of Competitive Play on Overwatch launched on March 1st and will be wrapping up on April 27th. After that, the mode will shut down until Season 10 commences. As of right now, Blizzard has yet to announce a date. Meanwhile, the first competitive 6-vs-6 Competitive Elimination season is still in progress, and will conclude on May 7th.
A special player icon and spray will be awarded to all players who finish all 10 placement matches. The top 500 players for each region will receive one additional special spray and icon each.
The points awarded for the ninth season will be consistent with what Blizzard has distributed in the past. That means that players who complete the season with a Bronze maximum skill rating will get 65 competitive points. Players who finish with Silver will receive 125 points, while those who wrap up the season with Gold will get 250 points.
500 points are awarded for Platinum and 750 are given out for Diamond. Those who finish the season at the Master level get 1,200 points. Players who achieve the Grandmaster skill rating get 1,750 points.
Those who were upset that Brigitte was not available during this most recent season of Competitive Play will be pleased to learn that she will be available during the 10th season.
The reason Brigitte was not available was because players were complaining when new heroes were immediately brought into the Competitive Play mode. This is understandable, as their introduction would result in unexpected factors affecting gameplay.
For this reason, Blizzard made a policy change. New heroes would not be available for Competitive Play until the next season. Now players are complaining about that, so Blizzard is once more re-evaluating. There is still no announcement about what they will do when the next hero is introduced.
Regardless of their decision, you’ll find out about it here. Check back in soon for more news and updates on Blizzard’s Competitive Play seasons and new heroes!
