When it comes to completing games, many gamers actually leave plenty of titles unfinished. Look up the rate of completion for most games, and you will find that a large number, often a majority of gamers, never finished them. God of War’s rate of completion is proving notably higher than average, however.
Completion Rates for Games
Of course, the vast majority of gamers never reach 100% completion for most games. Very few people have the will or patience to find every collectible, complete every side-quest, or do whatever other objectives exist in the entirety of a game. However, the rates for simply reaching the end of a game’s story are often surprisingly low too; especially when the game requires many hours to beat. Even among major franchises, the rate of completion is usually well below 50%.

Take Assassin’s Creed Origins, for example. The latest entry in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series; Origins was widely praised by reviewers and fans alike for revitalizing a series which many felt had become stale. However, just 37% of players who have played Origins have finished the final story quest. Even games that feature far less optional side-quests and the like have low rates of completion, though they may hold slightly higher figures. Uncharted 4 has been completed by only 42.5% of its players. Even The Order 1886, a game widely criticized for its very short length (around eight hours), was only finished by 43.6% of its players.
That’s why God of War’s rate of completion is especially impressive. Santa Monica Studios’ latest game currently holds a figure of about 50.7%. That means that slightly over half of its players have completed the main story; a feat which, on average, requires over twenty hours of playtime. God of War has enjoyed enormous success since its release, and this figure is more evidence that gamers do want and relish finely-honed single-player games; a genre which had seemed to be dying out in recent years.
