Plenty of news is arriving around the upcoming international football games with EA’s FIFA 20 and Konami’s PES 2020. The latter of these games, officially called eFootball PES 2020 launched the demo version of their game for various platforms on July 30. In addition, fans were surprised as Konami unveiled the PES 2020 cover of the global edition. The surprise came not from one of the GOATs of soccer appearing on front, but another star. It’s not other than Scott McTominay of Manchester United.
PES 2020 Cover of Global Edition features Lionel Messi, Scott McTominay
Upon the PES 2020 cover reveal brings four stars onto the front of the Global cover of the game. Up at center top position and above the rest of the players is the GOAT, Lionel Messi. Three other players adorn the cover but to fans’ dismay none of them are from the Juventus squad such as Cristiano Ronaldo. From left to bottom to right it’s Serge Gnabry, Scott McTominay, and Miralem Pjanic.
There are those fans loving the cover, and others feeling it should have boasted Messi and Ronaldo on front, especially with Konami’s big partnership with Juventus. They secured the rights to use the Juventus team name and appearance in PES 2020 with plenty of promotion showing off Ronaldo along with his teammates on the virtual pitch. Instead of Ronaldo, Pjanic got the nod.
Fan-created cover shows Messi, Ronaldo
Some in the PES community on Twitter feel the cover is cluttered with players. Others are still trying their best to get it changed. In fact, there are fans are supporting heir own version of what they’d like for the cover. The fan-created PES cover below shows Lionel Messi alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s a nice looking cover, but unfortunately that’s not the way Konami chose to go.

Other fans quickly pointed out that Konami needs to pay for the front cover likenesses. That could be part of the issue with having two of the biggest stars of football appear together on front. Lionel Messi is expensive enough and the cover showcases three other players with him instead of Ronaldo. One of those players does hail from Juventus, as Miralem Pjanic is there to represent.
Scott McTominay getting fan support
Scott McTominay, who appears on the bottom of the cover, is also among global ambassadors for the game. The EPL’s Manchester United is in partnership with Konami and amongst the playable teams in PES 2020. While Ronaldo would be a great star for the cover, it makes sense to feature McTominay along with other team ambassadors to promote the upcoming game.
There are plenty of gamers who also feel that PES 2020 cover needed more “Scotty McSauce” so the opinions seem to go both ways. Others want more Gnabry, and then a lot want Messi with Ronaldo. Time will tell if Scott McTominay ultimately takes over as a main cover star ahead of Messi and Ronaldo.
Konami’s eFootball PES 2020 arrives for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PCs on September 10, 2019. See more of our recent video game news for updates on PES, FIFA, and other titles.
