PGA Tour 2K update on Tiger Woods’ deal
Tiger Woods’ name is synonymous with the game of golf. Now he’ll part of the top simulation game for the sport once again. On Tuesday, PGA Tour 2K shared a video clip on social media featuring highlights of 15-time Majors winner Tiger Woods.
Along with the video, they also shared a special message:
“It’s time to roar, [tiger emoji] is back! We are stoked to announce that we are joining forces with @tigerwoods to take to the virtual links in the #PGATour2K franchise. The future is bright and what better way to move forward than with the 15-time Majors winner at the helm!” PGA Tour 2K shared.
Tiger holds an impressive resume with 82 PGA Tour victories and 11 times as PGA Tour Player of the Year. He’s also got 15 major championship wins and is in a tie for most career wins in PGA Tour history.
“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen,” Tiger Woods said in a statement, per PGA Tour 2K.
“I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together,” Woods said.
Based on their announcement, Tiger’s name and likeness will now appear exclusively in the PGA Tour 2K franchise. It will also appear in any other golf titles that 2K publishes.
Tiger Woods name was first attached to the PGA Tour title in 1998. The game, called Tiger Woods 99 PGA Tour Golf, was available on Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Windows PCs.
The games were published by EA Sports, who ended their relationship with Woods in October 2013. That made Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 the final game to carry the golf star’s name.
2K to acquire HB Studios Multimedia Ltd.
In addition to the reveal of Tiger’s return, another major PGA Tour 2K update arrived. The popular video game developer announced they have “entered into a definitive agreement” to purchase HB Studios Multimedia Ltd., the developers behind The Golf Club, and the recent PGA Tour 2K21 title.
Per their report, PGA Tour 2K21 has “sold-in nearly two million units to date.” The game features several realistic golf courses from the PGA Tour. PGA Tour 2K21 also has officially licensed PGA Tour professionals and various gear and apparel brands.
PGA Tour 2K21 features recent Players Championship winner Justin Thomas as cover star. The title currently holds a 78 rating on Xbox One, 76 on PS4, and a 72 on Nintendo Switch consoles, per Metacritic.
