A brand new mode called Divot Derby has come to the PGA Tour 2K21 video game, giving a faster style competition for online players to enjoy. The mode is available for almost all platforms. Depending on the platform it’s on, it can include up to 20 players. Based on early reviews, gamers are enjoying the new mode and the fast and furious battle it brings to the green.
What is Divot Derby mode in PGA Tour 2K21?
As of March 17, PGA Tour 2K21 Divot Derby is now available. With this new mode, there can be up to 20 players that tee off simultaneously. From there, it’s a frantic race to sink a putt faster than opponents.
Each competitor’s ball will have a different colored streak as it flies through the air. The object is to be the first to get your ball onto the green and make a putt. Otherwise, you’re eliminated quickly.
Competitor eliminations happen as the Divot Derby goes forth, so those players merely get to watch how things play out. The winner of the competition is the first one to reach the ninth and final hole.
As you can see in the screenshot below, you’ll see your golfer on screen and all the colored streaks for your opponents’ shots. That aspect is very similar to something like MLB The Show’s Home Run Derby mode online.
Divot Derby is a free add-on mode available via an update for PGA Tour 2K21. It’s currently available for the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, and PCs.
It’s listed as coming soon for Nintendo Switch consoles, so stay tuned for that announcement on PGA Tour 2K’s Twitter. Also of note, the Switch version will only allow up to 16 players in Divot Derby.

A number of YouTube gamers have shared footage as they test out the new Divot Derby mode on PGA Tour 2K21. As the narrator in the video below notes, it’s basically “get the ball in the hole as quick as you can before everyone else can.” He also mentions several competitors are eliminated on the first hole. A few more competitors get eliminated each round.
A leaderboard pops up after each hole showing the overall results and status. As seen in the video, 16 players advanced after the first hole with four competitors eliminated.
The new update featuring Divot Derby is the latest news to arrive for PGA Tour 2K21. While he won’t appear in the 2K21 game (unless you create him), Tiger Woods will be returning to 2K in the future.
The pro golfer signed a multi-year deal with 2K so that they can use his name and likeness for future games. In addition, 2K revealed they acquired HB Studios, the developers behind recent games PGA Tour 2K21 and The Golf Club series.
