When we talk about the PlayStation 5, we focus most on its capabilities for video games. But will it be up to the task of being your next-gen all-around entertainment center? Judging by the fact that it will include a 4K Blu-ray player, the answer to that question is a resounding “yes.”
There Will Be a 4K Blu-Ray Player in Your PlayStation 5
The reveal about the Blu-ray player is courtesy of Wired, which in turn got its information from both SIE CEO Jim Ryan and system architect Mark Cerny. The article states, “physical games for the PS5 will use 100-GB optical disks, inserted into an optical drive that doubles as a 4K Blu-ray player.”
That’s all it says about the 4K Blu-ray player, as the article covers a lot of ground, discussing a variety of features in-depth. But at least we now know. And even though it is barely touched upon in the article, this feature is a big deal. Its presence isn’t a surprise, but it sure would have been if it wasn’t there. The player is something which the PS5 needs to be competitive with the next Xbox.
That is not the only big news to come out about the PlayStation 5. We have just learned that PlayStation 5 really will be the official name of the console. We also have found out that the launch window for the PlayStation 5 will be the 2020 holiday season. So, even though it feels like we have been waiting forever, we will not need to wait too much longer to get our hands on Sony’s most sophisticated console yet. And according to the blog where Sony made these announcements, we’ll also be getting an incredible new controller with amazing new immersion features.
We are hoping that this will be just the start of a flood of news from Sony regarding the PS5. We’ll keep you up to date on everything we learn over the months ahead in our PlayStation 5 news section.
