Any fan of the Survival genre knows about the game Ark: Survival Evolved. Developed by Studio Wild Card, it’s a game that has received mixed reception over the years. However, fans of the game got hyped knowing that Grapeshot Games – a sister studio to Wild Card – announced Atlas. A pirate MMO which was announced at the Game Awards 2018.
While some players hoped that this would be the pirate game that Sea of Thieves wished to be. The game’s launch has proven to be quite the contrary. Not only has this game suffered multiple delays before launch. It’s also recently been discovered that this game actually is a reskin of Ark: Survival Evolved disguised as a new game.
Turbulent Waters Ahead
Twitch streamer “Mukkayo” found out a secret ARK menu hidden within Atlas’s main menu. The menu is only accessible for players with the Xbox Controller. All the streamer had to do was scroll past the “Exit” option in the main menu. Then, a menu quite similar to Ark’s appears for the player to see.
Within the Ark menu, players noticed a Story Ark called “Ocean”. According to Reddit user Lataton, “if you click on the Ocean and Play Single Player, it sends you to the Character Customization of Atlas”. The user then theorizes that this game was created as DLC for Ark which ended up as a standalone game.
This is already outrageous enough. However, plenty more players have found other things to complain about as well. It only takes a single viewing of the game’s Steam Store Page to see just how broken the game’s release is. Some of the most common complaints include:
- Not being able to join the game’s servers.
- Reported problems when it comes to purchasing the game.
- Extremely barebones crafting system.
- Messy structure which leads to players getting lost easily.
- Multiple users being kicked out of the game for no apparent reason.
These complaints and many more have put Atlas into a very tough position. With the complaints piling up. It will take a while for Grapeshot Games to correct the technical problems the game has. However, with the fact that Ark’s menu was found within Atlas. There really is a lot of trouble ahead for Wild Card’s sister company.
