The recent Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay demo released by CD Projekt Red showcased a key aspect of the game’s setting; the player’s home in Night City. In this case, that home was a smallish apartment in one of the city’s towering tenement blocks. Asked for clarification afterwards, CD Projekt Red has now confirmed that players will be able to unlock or buy different Cyberpunk 2077 homes.
Cyberpunk 2077 Homes in Night City
CD Projekt Red was asked to clarify this topic recently on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Facebook page. The news quickly spread to Reddit. A fan asked whether the words “V’s current apartment,” which were used in the demo, indicated that players would be able to unlock or buy additional homes. The studio confirmed that they could. It certainly makes sense with how the city is laid out; Night City consist of several major districts, with clear social class divides between them. Presumably, as V moves up in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, they will be able to acquire larger and more expensive homes.
A real-world mortgage company recently published a study on the affordability of different in-game housing, including in titles like Skyrim and The Witcher. No doubt the housing in Cyberpunk will be a tricky one to price, what with factors like height affecting the property value; the higher up one lives in Night City, the wealthier and more important they are, for the most part.
It’s unknown at present exactly how V will acquire new homes in Cyberpunk 2077. It could be that they can simply be paid for. However, they could also be tied to story events, or decisions like choosing to side with a particular faction. The studio hasn’t said anything about customization when it comes to homes either; there were clearly displays in V’s apartment for showing off different weapons. However, it’s unknown if the interior furnishings or decor can be changed at all.
