It feels like ages now that we have been anticipating the release of Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. But now we can mark our calendars. Even though we still do not know the PS5 release date, Sony has announced the timeframe during which we can expect to buy the new console. With an official PlayStation 5 release window at last, we all start planning our budgets.
The PlayStation 5 Release Window is Next Holiday Season
Sony revealed the PS5 release window in a post entitled, “An Update on Next-Gen: PlayStation 5 Launches Holiday 2020.” In the post, SIE President & CEO Jim Ryan says, “Today I’m proud to share that our next-generation console will be called PlayStation 5, and we’ll be launching in time for Holiday 2020.”
Ryan spends the majority of the post detailing the new controller for the PlayStation 5, which the company designed around increasing immersion. He highlights two key features. The first is “haptic feedback,” which will take the place of the current vibration feature, providing a more diverse range of sensations. The next is adaptive triggers, where L2 and R2 will feel different depending on what you are doing with them (i.e. firing a gun will feel different from speeding up an automobile). This sounds pretty awesome. But, hopefully, Sony will be sharing more with us about the console itself in the near future!
If you want to learn about the controller in more detail, you can check out the post to read everything which Ryan has to say about it. You can also catch up on some of our latest updates on the PS5.
