PlayStation Exclusives Will Not Come to PlayStation Now at Launch

If you ever wanted PlayStation Now to bear a stronger resemblance to Xbox Game Pass, you probably have been pleased with some of the recent adjustments to the service. In particular, it is awesome that we no longer have to pay twice as much for PlayStation Now as Xbox Game Pass subscribers do for their service. But, will we get to play exclusives on PlayStation Now when they launch in the future? Or is that a privilege only Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get to enjoy for Xbox exclusives? PlayStation boss Jim Ryan weighs in.

What Jim Ryan Said About PlayStation Exclusives on PlayStation Now

While speaking with GamesIndustry, Ryan said, “It’s an area that is fast changing and fluid. The nature and scale of some of the first-party games that we are making leads us to think that, right now, it’s better to spend energy on making sure that the launch of those games is a massive entertainment event. I would cite God of War and Spider-Man, and The Last of Us 2 next year will fall into that category.”

Following that lengthy lead-in, Ryan went on, “That’s where we stand right now. But our stance on the inclusion of first-party games in PS Now in terms of what we’ve done this month is very different to our stance 12 months ago. I don’t want to say this is what PS Now is going to be like forever. But certainly right now, given how some of our first party IP is incredibly special and valuable, we just want to treat them with amazing care and respect, and have those launches be clean and pure.”

All of that sounds pretty indirect, but when he refers to keeping launches “clean and pure,” it would seem he doesn’t wish to contaminate them by making them available to subscribers who are paying $10 a month.

Still, PlayStation Now is a great value since you get access to a huge library of games. Also, Sony has stated that PlayStation Now will be a bigger priority for the company when PlayStation 5 launches. So, hopefully the service will offer even more value in the future. Keep up with all PlayStation news.
