Now that we’re well into August of 2018, PlayStation Plus subscribers can grab a new selection of free games on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. As is often the case with free PlayStation Plus games, there’s a pretty solid spread of different genres to sample, depending on which PlayStation platforms you have access to.
Both of this month’s headliner titles are available on the PlayStation 4 console. First up, there’s Hanger 13’s open-world crime title Mafia III. Set in the fictional city of New Bordeaux, Louisiana, Mafia III takes players back in time to the year 1968 and casts them as Lincoln Clay, an African-American Vietnam vet who seeks revenge on the Italian mobsters that murdered his family.
The other PS4 title on offer is Behavior Interactive’s 4v1 asymetrical multiplayer title Dead by Daylight. Each match in Dead by Daylight involves four survivor players trying to escape a procedurally generated map while a fifth player hunts them down as an unstoppable killer. Dead by Daylight has a very strong slasher film motif, but if you enjoy its basic gameplay premise, you might also want to check out Behavior’s newest game, Deathgarden, which has a very similar premise.
Over on the PlayStation 3, players can pick up the action-heavy RPG title Bound by Flame and the zany first-person shooter Serious Sam 3: BFE. Finally, on the PlayStation Vita, Sony is offering Draw Slasher and the Warhammer spin-off game Space Hulk.
It should be noted that Sony plans to eventually phase its legacy consoles out of the PlayStation Plus free game program. Starting on March 8, 2019, free games on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita will no longer be offered. As for this month’s games, you have until September 4 to add them to your digital library.
