Sony has announced that the next PlayStation State of Play will take place later this week, on Thursday the 6th of August at 1:00 PM PST. However, Sony has also confirmed that this online event will not feature any big PS5 announcements. Instead, the State of Play will reportedly focus on upcoming PS4 and PS VR games.
What to Expect From Thursday’s PlayStation State of Play
The PlayStation State of Play broadcast coming up this Thursday is the first big Sony event since their PS5 game reveal event. However, State of Play this week will be very different to that event, in that it will apparently focus primarily on current-generation games. Sony today released a statement confirming that fans could expect to see; “A focus on upcoming PS4 & PS VR games,” and will include; “No big PS5 announcements”. To clarify further, Sony has said that the games they’ll be focusing on will specifically be; “third-party-published games coming to PS4 and PS VR”.
However, that’s not to say that the PlayStation State of Play will not mention PS5 content at all. The event will reportedly include; “A few quick check-ins on third-party and indie games from June’s PS5 showcase”. That event did cover a very wide range of games, including several that will be releasing later this year on both current- and next-gen consoles. Given the other statements about the State of Play, however, it’s likely that these “quick check-ins” will focus on those games on the PS4, rather than on the next-gen hardware.
According to Sony, the total State of Play broadcast this Thursday will be slightly over 40 minutes. Additionally, Sony has confirmed that this broadcast won’t include any PlayStation Studios updates, or; “any updates around hardware, business, preorders, or dates either,” so fans shouldn’t expect anything like that. The broadcast will be airing on the 6th of August at 1:00 PM PST / 4:00 PM EST / 9:00 PM BST. It will be available to watch on both Twitch and YouTube.
