A lot of people are talking about a rumored upcoming update to the PlayStation Store. Apparently, once this update goes into effect, you will no longer be able to use the PlayStation Store Game Library to view the PS3, PSP and Vita content you have purchased. Let’s learn more about this possible upcoming change.
Soon, We May Not Be Able to View Non-PS4 Purchased Content in the PlayStation Store Game Library
A few days ago, we reported on a rumor that a “brand new PlayStation Store” might be launching soon. This rumor was one we were hoping would be empty, because it sounded like the store would receive more of a downgrade than an upgrade. But alas, this rumor is continuing to make rounds.
The text by user Wario64says, “PSN webstore is reportedly getting updated starting Oct 19th for web, Oct 28 for mobile. It will no longer allow users to buy PS3/PSP/Vita content as well as apps/themes/avatars. You’ll have to buy them from the device instead … Wishlist also removed.”
Since the tweet went up, many users have replied to complain about the potential changes. Many of those complaints focus on the fact that the Game Library would only show PS4 content, and that one would need to jump through a lot of extra hoops if one wanted to view or download old content one bought for PS3, PSP or Vita. Some of the tweet replies seem to be about the hypothetical possibility of the change, but a few seem to reflect a change that already occurred. So, it is unclear at this time if Sony is already implementing these changes.
Further, this seems like the worst possible time to introduce such a change. A lot of gamers are going to want the digital-only PS5. Why would Sony make life harder when it comes to digital downloads while also trying to get users to walk away from their physical discs?
It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but then again, that is nothing new with Sony. We are just going to have to wait to find out what is going to happen. Hopefully the company is taking note of the resistance to these changes. Follow our PlayStation news for more updates.
