PS4 Firmware Update 6.0 Beta Is Here: What to Expect

If you are fortunate, you might recently have received an invitation email for the PS4 Firmware Update 6.0 Beta. If you did, the message read, “You will find smaller quality of life and performance fixes [as opposed to major feature changes]. However, we would still love the help from the community to help us test the overall performance and stability.”

What does that actually mean? Well … it is hard to say. We should on some level take the message at face value and not expect any major feature additions or improvements—at least at this stage of the beta. It could be that there are plans to unroll said features at a later date, but Sony is still hard at work on them (and very tight-lipped about the whole thing). If so, perhaps those updates will be quite astonishing. Why else would Sony keep them secret?

It is also possible however that there will be no major feature changes at all. Maybe the entire purpose of this firmware update is simply to boost performance. If so, that is actually pretty exciting anyway, because PS4 could really use some improvements in that regard. This is essentially what the message says anyway.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, and whether those invited to the beta discover that the changes are subtle or dramatic. Either way, we look forward to the rollout of the finalized version of Firmware Update 6.0 whenever it becomes available. When we learn more from the beta, we’ll let you know, so check back in with us again soon.
