If you were excited to find out that the PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible with PlayStation 4 games, we have another exciting update for you. Sony recently re-filed a new version of a PS5 backwards compatibility patent. Going by what the patent says, PS4 games may play better than ever on the new system..
Here is What the PS5 Backwards Compatibility Patent Has to Say
You can view the complete patent by navigating to this link. While there is quite a bit to read from top to bottom, the most pertinent sentence can be found around halfway down the page. The patent says, “To further optimize, one can adjust the execution of the new hardware to see if the application can be run faster on the new hardware without causing it to fail.”
The “optimizing” is referring to the performance of PS4 games on the PS5. While the sentence is vague, it certainly seems to point toward more than just faster load times.
This news comes not long after we found out that PS5 will be supporting cross-play with PS4. This is excellent news for those of us who want to be able to continue playing online and co-op games with our friends who are still on PS4 after we upgrade.
