PS5 Target Audience to be Hardcore Gamers

When a new console is in development, the company has to make a decision about what audience that console will primarily serve. In the case of the PlayStation 5, Sony has come out and said recently that the main target audience will be “hardcore gamers.”

Here is What Sony Had to Say About Making PS5 for Hardcore Gamers

The report which discussed Sony’s target audience for PS5 was in the Wall Street Journal. In the report, Sony described the PlayStation 5 as catering to “hardcore gamers who obsess over the latest features.” Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida further explained that the PS5 will be a “niche product, aimed at serious players.”

Sony has a lot in store for hardcore gamers with PS5.

Furthermore, Sony will keep a strong focus on its first-party exclusive titles. This is necessary since the company feels that one of the main motivators to purchase one console over another is to “play high-quality games available only on that platform.” At the same time, the company intends to also prioritize its relationships with third party publishers.

The company also commented on both Nintendo and Stadia, saying that neither represents a threat. The reason? Because their core audiences are apparently not within the same demographic.

So going by all of the combined statements in the article, it sounds like Sony is taking the PS5 is more or less the same direction it did the PS4. Focusing on the hardcore gamer demographic makes sense. They are the core of the community, and the most focused on keeping up with the latest trends and purchasing the latest AAA games.

It is good to hear some comments from Sony about the PS5 since the company opted to skip out of E3 this year. But there has been some other interesting news coming out lately about the PS5 as well. Just the other week, we found out that the company is working on technology that would put an end to load screens. We also know that PlayStation Now is going to be a bigger deal for Sony in the future.

So when will the PS5 release? It could be the holiday season in 2020, or it could be 2021. Regardless, a lot more news should come out between now and then, and hopefully some of it will be in the near future. So keep up with all of the latest rumors and updates in our PlayStation news area.
